Nibble & Gnaw is a brand of premium quality Timothy Hay for rabbits and other small animals such as chinchillas and degus.
Timothy hay really is the mainstay and favourite of any small herbivore’s diet. It is both high in fibre and low in protein and calcium content and is ideal for keeping your rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animal’s fragile digestive system functioning properly as well as keeping their dental health in check.
Our 1st cut timothy hay is harvested in Canada in late Spring, and Second Cut (which is the regrowth of 1st Cut) is gathered in the late summer. The nutrient levels change relative to the season with 1st Cut being much higher in fibre with less protein and the 2nd Cut having a little more protein and a less fibre.
1st cut Timothy hay has much larger seed heads, leaves and long-stems which makes it coarser, but the long stems are great for your little herbivore as it promotes and encourages their natural chewing behaviour. 2nd cut timothy hay then is the regrowth of the 1st cut hay so it is a little softer, moister and has a larger percentage of leaves to stems which are occasionally darker in colour with being baked under the Canadian sun. It is a little higher in protein and lower in fibre and highly nutritious for all small herbivores.
We have a very close relationship with our farmers who have a great passion for their land and grass. We personally walk and assess the fields each year selecting only the best pivots of hay. We send each pivot of hay for laboratory analysis to ensure it has the optimal nutritional content and is of the highest quality.
Our hay is cut and dried in the Canadian sun before being loosely stored in secure barns on our farms. When we’re ready to sell the hay we collect it from the farmers and run it through a specially designed blow chamber to remove dust and brown leaf. The hay is then expertly hand-packed in our own factory to ensure the highest standards of quality control.
We are so confident about the quality that we guarantee it will stay fresh for up to two years if stored correctly.
